What is fungal disease?
Fungi are tiny organisms that multiply on the skin and under the nails and can only be seen with a microscope. All fungal diseases are highly contagious and can spread easily. If left untreated, foot and nail fungal diseases can spread to other parts of your body, infect your relatives or cause more serious infections due to bacteria in your body.

Fungal infection: It can be seen as tinea pedis (foot fungus), tinea corporis (body fungus), tinea capitis (hair breaker) and onychomycosis (nail fungus). Topical and systemic antifungal drugs are recommended for treatment.

What are the causes of nail fungus?
Nail fungus is an infectious disease. It often occurs as a result of direct contamination without any systemic disease.Diabetes, circulatory disorders, old age, inadequate hygiene, excessive sweating and moist environment are the factors that facilitate the formation.

How to treat nail fungus?
The main treatment of nail fungus is done with rubbing or oral medications. However, in recent years, laser systems have been used as an alternative, due to the long duration of drug treatments and the occurrence of various side effects. The most commonly used laser for this purpose is Nd:yag lasers.

How do lasers affect nail fungus?
Nd:YAG laser can reach a depth of 3-5 mm into the tissue and increase the tissue temperature up to 60 ºC. Most fungi are destroyed at temperatures higher than 50 ºC. Fungi living in the nail are destroyed by the heat created by the laser light in the tissue. Thus, over time, healthy and normal nail growth from the nail base is ensured.

How to treat nail fungus with laser?
The laser is applied for a total of 4-6 sessions at 3 to 4 week intervals. The process takes 5-10 minutes. No pain or pain is felt during the application, except for a slight warming sensation. Healing begins 3 months after the first application. The healing effect continues until the 6th month.

What are the advantages of laser nail fungus treatment?
 It can be preferred in patients who are inconvenient to use oral mushroom pills.

 It is safe in the elderly and children.
